  • June 21, 2013.  Teen Craft at 1 pm. Join us to make Zombie Felties.  Supplies are furnished for young adults ages 11-18.  Please sign up as we are limiting it to 10.

April 23, 2013, PARSONS, KS – Thomas Prasch of Washburn University will lead a discussion of Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy at 6:30 on Monday, May 13 at Parsons Public Library.     

 This is the final book in the four-part “British Classics” series.  First published in 1874, the novel follows the story of Gabriel Oak as he watches Bathsheba, the headstrong young mistress of Weatherby Farm, enter into an unhappy marriage. 

 Prasch is a professor and chair of the history department at Washburn University.  He received his Ph.D. in history from Indiana University, and his research specialties include Victorian England and film history.   

 To supplement the book discussion, the library will show the movie Far from the Madding Crowd on Thursday, May 16 at 2:00. 

 The Talk About Literature in Kansas (TALK) book discussion series is provided by the Kansas Humanities Council (KHC), a nonprofit cultural organization with over 40 years of experience promoting the understanding of the history and ideas that shape our lives and build community.  For more information about KHC, visit www.kansashumanities.org.
