Kevin Rabas from Emporia State University, will lead the discussion on The Chaperone, by Laura Moriarty at 6:30 p.m. on March 23, at the Parsons Public Library.
This is the second book in the three-part “It’s a Hard Knock Life” book discussion series.
Thirty-six-year-old Mrs. Cora Carlisle chaperones teen Louise Brooks to New York City from Wichita, Kansas, when the budding silent-film star secures an opportunity to study at the prestigious Denishawn School of Dance. While Louise attends dance lessons Cora secretly embarks on her own personal quest, finding herself knocking at the door of the New York Home for Friendless Girls.
Rabas is an associate professor of English at Emporia State University, where he co-directs the Creative Writing Program. He is the 2017-2019 Poet Laureate of Kansas. He received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Kansas. Rabas joined the TALK program in 2008.

The series will conclude with a discussion on The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman, on April 27.
